Chicago-style hot dog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
A Chicago-style hot dog is a steamed or water-simmered, kosher-style, all-beef frankfurter on a poppy seed bun, originating from the city of Chicago, Illinois. The hot dog is topped with yellow mustard, chopped white onions, sweet pickle relish (often a dyed neon-green variety, sometimes called piccalilli), a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt. The complete assembly of a Chicago hot dog is said to be "dragged through the garden" because of the unique combination of condiments.
It actually isn't particularly unhealthy for a hot dog. I just find it disgusting--some of those are among my least-favorite hot dog toppings.

Ugh, not appealing to me whatsoever.

Actually I never like anything absolutely smothered in topics. But especially not those topics.

I do like a nice chili dog. That might be my Detroit upbringing . . . but on the other hand, come on, it is chili!

Yovi's had the best Chicago style hotdogs in Pittsburgh IMO. It was a sad day for me and my husband when they closed. We had many lunch dates there!

Yovi's was on Liberty Ave, downtown, roughly at 7th Street, near the 7-11 on the corner. I forget what is in there now.

That's the one on South Braddock in Regent Square, correct? I've been meaning to try that place out! I love hot dogs! (Cue the gay jokes in 3, 2, 1...)

Yes, in Regent Square. It expanded and isn't as good as the old days, but still fun.

To hell with the hot dogs, the beer cave is the main attraction. (And no, that's not "bear cave.") (Sorry, I couldn't resist. )
