We are relocating to Pittsburgh area and have been recommended to the fox chapel, sewickley, north hills areas. We have young children and our needs center around them. We know that fox chapel school district is great and so that is on the top of our list. We would like to be within 25 min of city, have about 1 acre of land at least, and I would like to be relatively close to supermarket shopping.
There is a home in "Ohara" that seems to meet our needs. Any info on this particular region?
I heard sewickley is also beautiful, but is hard to get to supermarkets. Is this true?
Fox chapel is beautiful and there are a few homes that are afordable for us. However, we would prefer a newer home (or a new home). Is there new construction in fox chapel?
It seemed that the north hills had alot of strip malls and you needed to drive a long way to get to things. I would love a centralized shopping area so I wouldn't have to get the kids in and out of the car so much. Is this impression of the north hills true?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Centralized shopping and an acre of land are pretty much diametrically opposed priorities. When you say Sewickley, do you mean the village or the township? You can get the central shopping in Sewickley Village but the acre of land would be hard to come by ($$$$). Sewickley has a small-medium sized grocery store in the center of the village, btw. The township, generally referring to areas further north, doesn't have much shopping at all.

Generally speaking, the north hills is going to be very "strip mall" oriented for shopping, McKnight Rd, etc - there's not many town centers. O'hara township may have you shopping in Aspinwall, which may meet your shopping needs, not sure. O'hara would have you in the Fox Chapel school district, and from what I know, seems to be pretty similar to the adjacent Fox Chapel.

You are never very far from shopping, but no matter what you will have to drive to it so that's pretty much a non-issue.

You can not go wrong with O'Hara, but if you have time to look around, check out the Wexford area. The townships of Pine, Marshall, Mccandless are just as good as Fox Chapel in schools but with better shopping nearby, and with a potentially greater chance to find the kind of property you want.

The original question was asked in 2007. I think this may not be a live issue.

Shoot. This seems to happen all the time for some reason. When you see a thread at the top of the board you usually don't bother to read the date on the OP.

I know; same thing happens to me now and again!
What I don't get is why people search for and then resurrect almost seven year old posts.

Yeah, and their last post was an inquiry about schools in Houston, Texas. They probably didn't come here because nobody helped them out back in 07. I guess they should've been more patient.
