Does this estimate sound good?
Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice. My wife and I are in the process of building our new home near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We are at the stage to have the utilities run from the tap in locations to the house.
The excavator will have to dig four separate trenches for a total of about 450 feet for gas line, water line, electric, sewage lines, cable/phone line, and gutter run off. He will also have a master plumber there to install all the lines and connect everything up to the taps and to the house. He is also including all the pipes, cables, gravel, testing etc, a fully complete job.
I received a rought estimate of about 7000 to 8000 dollars. Does that sound like a fair price, I was just suprised that it would be so much, but then again I have no idea what it costs.
Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

I don't remember exact numbers, but that price range seems fair for hookup of all utilities. My friend has to pay 10k just for a sewer line hookup (which includes a pump).

That's an extremely fair price... My only concern would be the quality of work this person is going to provide. I would certainly bring in other estimātes.

Well, I can tell you that to upgrade my home electrical service and run everything underground from the pole (about 50 ft), the cost was more than $8k.
I'd say that you are getting a deal but make sure that you have your local building inspector review and sign off on everthing before and after. You don't want to have to dig something up because he/she didn't see or approve it.

Thanks, I will make sure to do that. The contractor that will be doing it has been in business for over 20 years and seems to be very popular in this area. I guess I just did not realize how much this type of work costs and was a little taken back by the price. But now hearing from all of you makes me a feel a lot better!!!
