Well, excuse me! I was referring to cities regarded as having no personalities.

The phrase the other poster was using was "generic", not "no personality", so that may help explain the confusion.

So if you like Pittsburgh, fine, I know I'm not going to change your mind, and I'm not trying to. But what I am saying is that I hate it for the reasons I gave in the previous post, and I don't care to ever be in that city.

If you hate it so much, make a change instead of bitching about it. Sheesh. Life is too short to live in an area you hate.

Cincy's European influences are more Northern (German, English, Irish) than Pittsburgh's, which are more Southern and Eastern. Cincinnati is less industrial--Proctor and Gamble is the big employer, and there used to be lots of meat-packing, hence the Porkopolis nickname. You'll find a lot of similar architecture and cultural amenities, as well.
It's kind of funny, because even though I grew up in Cincinnati, I've seen and sought out much more of Pittsburgh in 8 years than I did in 20+ years in Cincy. I grew up there and got out.

Cincinnati also have Kroger and GE Aviation.
PGH has a few industries besides steel. Bayer asprin is made in Pittsburgh as is Heinz ketchup(why else would the Steelers play in a stadium called Heinz?). You also have robotics in PGH as well as American Eagle, Dicks Sporting Goods, GNC(not to be confused with PNC, also in PGH ). PPG means Pittsburgh Plate Glass, which can be found on many a windshield. Pittsburgh has made some contributions to the USA besides steel.

I don't think any Bayer is actually manufactured in Pittsburgh, I think it's just offices there.

Oh yeah. They own that huge multi complex area next to Settler's Cabin. It's like a mini township driving through there to get to the park!

1. Pittsburgh IS beautiful. The downtown, the historic homes, the cobblestone streets, the hills, the views, the rivers... from the gritty industrial warehouses and glorious decay to the Victorian mansions and restored buildings and everything in between....Pittsburgh has charm to spare...and where there isn't beauty, there is potential!
2. Pittsburgh is affordable! You don't have to be rich to live here. When I first moved here, I worked at Walmart. I was broke, but I still had enough to live on and was able to appreciate the city. Now I have a job in the field my degree is in. Pittsburgh gave me an opportunity. It has as many jobs as anywhere these days.
3. I think this city has been maligned in the media and by residents so long that it has become cool to hate on it. But I think what this city needs more than anything else is love. It needs people to fight for it, and I know people do every day otherwise it would never have survived so well.
So the next time you hear someone say something really negative or sarcastic about Pittsburgh I hope you will stand up for the city. We know the city deserves it.[/quote]
Absolutely true!!! I love winter, seriously! I love cloudy overcast skies. I love the Steelers. I love the Penguins. Those bridges are awesome works of architecture. The PPG building is a gothic skyscraper among many others in the 'Burgh's distinctive skyline. I like that Pittsburgh is compact and not all spread-out. Building up instead of out is a good idea. I love your city and I can't wait to make it mine once I can move out of Indiana!

We will be glad to have you back. More and more people are coming and falling in love with the city. As time goes on, I care less and less about people that badmouth Pittsburgh. In my mind, this is when Pittsburgh will hit the big time. All great cities have issues. When Pittsburghers, like people in NYC, San Francisco, Boston, get less defensive about criticism, because we know we are great regardless, we can then compare ourselves to those cities in many ways.
