That's funny. I used to have a white car and that never happened.

There is a bit of a difference between factory soot choking the city and the grunge your car picks up from the exhaust of other cars on the road.

I see more yellow pollen on my car than anything else. Certainly no soot though.

Every single person I have met in real life in the Pittsburgh area has said to me, "Welcome to Pittsburgh! What made you decide to move here? I reply: "No, no, no. That's the wrong way to approach this. Say this instead: "Welcome to Pittsburgh! You are going to love it here!"
And they reply: "But why would anyone want to move to Pittsburgh?"
To top it off, we've told everyone we know that we are moving to Pittsburgh and they all ask the same question. Why?
Pittsburgh needs an ad campaign to help its image with both the locals (at least the ones I've met) and the folks from other states. Geez, now I sometimes wonder if we are making a huge mistake. The negativity makes me nervous. Well, it's too late now to reconsider. My husband and son are already there, and the rest of us will arrive in two weeks. I just keep in mind all the things I like about the area, and hope we will grow to love it.

If you like low crime, good standard of living, unparalleled cultural amenities, fantastic views, unique architecture, nature, historic preservation, good housing, relatively stable economy, good people who look out for each other, and four seasons, you can't go wrong with metropolitan Pittsburgh. Before anyone rebuts me about the weather: Yes -winter can be cloudy and cold in the northeast, but spring, summer and fall can't be beat).

The same with me. I was parking a car on the street for something like seven years (before getting a garage), and I don't recall any soot.

See! You can write the ad copy!
I don't like the weather, but it is actually a little bit better than we have here in Mass. What I like the best is that everyone I've met is so friendly, and it seems to be genuine.
It disproves my theory that people in eastern Mass are cold because of the weather.

It definitely looked like soot, and there was a lot of it. Every time I washed my car, it would have this coating of black dust after about two days. This was last year when I lived in Forest Hills (not city of Pittsburgh, but close enough). Since moving to Shadyside, I've noticed a little bit of black dust on my car from sitting outside, but not quite as bad. Whether this is soot or not, who knows, but it is black dust from the air. When I lived in Michigan, there was never any black dust on my car.
