Default Looking for info on Coraopolis...

My husband is being transferred to the Air Base near the airport and Coraopolis looks like it would give him the quickest commute time while still being "city", is that about right? We have a daughter going into 8th grade and since she has some special needs I'd really appreciate any first-hand info on the middle schools. We'll be renting so housing prices aren't an issue but a pleasant, safe, kid and dog friendly neighborhood is. I hate to drive but I can't tell if Coraopolis is like the city neighborhoods where I could walk to the grocery store, pharmacy, and so on, if anybody could shed some light on what areas might allow me to do this I would really appreciate it. My husband is on call 24/7/365 so any commute longer than 10 minutes becomes too much of an issue but if anyone familiar with the area knows of an area other than Coraopolis that meets all the above requirements I'd love to hear about it. Thanks

I don't know how important being in the city is to you, but Coraopolis may not be your best choice. There are communities a lot closer to the airport that would make your husband's commute just as easy, if not easier.

I currently live in Robinson Township which is very close to the airport and about 15 to 20 minutes to town, if you don't have bad traffic. There is lots of shopping here but walking to it would be difficult because of the lack of sidewalks and the fact that the shopping area is isolated. Moon township be ideal since that is where the airport and base is located. Most people there come to Robinson for any major shopping but they do have grocery stores, restaurants and other shoppes there too.

Sewickly is another area to consider. They may have amenities you are looking for but that is a more pricey area to live and not as close as say Moon is.

Hope this helps!

Re: good school system for kids w/special needs. I would suggest you look at moving to Greentree borough (not city)...right on the parkway - not a horrible commute to the base area; however they have a nice special ed program. Keystone Oaks School District
