Ryan homes would have to tell you what their deck dimensions would be. A $5200 deck bult some time ago very probably would be different than todays.

But if you have some rudimentary knowledge of power tools and a hammer and screwdriver and screws, you could save a lot of money and get a nicer deck by building it yourself....

contractors love building decks because they all overcharge you. i bought a book on decks by black & decker and built my deck myself. i had never done any type of woodworking project before, but it turned out beautifully. it cost me about $600 in materials to build a 20' x 15' deck.

I had a 10 x 12 deck installed and it was about $3500. We used treated lumber and our stairs were "L" shaped. When pricing a deck you must consider the type of wood, the type of railing, the size and the number of holes that you have to dig. We had a relative price it and he thought it was more than fair considering the cost of the wood. I have a friend who is putting in a fake wood deck that is much larger and his is going to cost 5 times that.

Look into some DEK blocks. I used them on the last deck I built, depending on how high your deck needs to be, they can save you some time and the process is easy.
