I've always received a wide range of quotes for concrete work. Blows my mind. One year, I received quotes from $800 to $12,000 just to tear out an existing patio and retaining wall, not replacing--just tearing out. Recently, I have received quotes from $2,500 to $15,500 to tear out and replace a porch. Since the tearing out of concrete is the most expensive part of the job, I think $8,200 is a bit high for a driveway. I recommend calling all concrete advertisements in the Pennysaver and getting as many quotes as possible. It's been my experience that 3 quotes is too few when it comes to concrete. I always get at least 6 quotes and I've been happy with the work from the cheapest bidder since it's only concrete.

It might be easier to answer if you gave the dimensions, so the price/sq foot could be calculated.

Is it flat, or sloped? Straight, or curved? Also, how thick is the concrete specified to be? A cheapo job will be 4" thick, while a top notch job will be 6" thick. As a rule of thumb, there should be as much stone base material beneath the concrete as the concrete is thick.

Thank you "Hopes" and "ditchdigger" for valuable advice. I will ask for 6 quotes and then take action. Thank you again for your time.

Also, are they only using fiber reinforced concrete or will they be putting wire mesh or rebar in it? What strength concrete are they using, 3000, 4000 psi? Stamped and dyed concrete is more expensive but if done right, looks really nice.
