Hello everyone!

First, let me give a bit of backstory to this. I currently live in an apartment in a highrise in Highland Park and love it, however, due to economic conditions (i.e. losing my job), I am moving back to my parent's house for a couple of years to finish school/pay down my student loans, etc...

My girlfriend and I are looking to move in together after she's done with school which would be 2 or 2.5 years away.

We don't want to jump in and buy a house together because we agree we'd be too young to "settle down", however, we don't really want an apartment just because we like our space.

So, I was wondering if you guys had any ideas where we could rent a house (or a townhouse, but we'd prefer a house) in the city limits or close to the city. Location doesn't particularly matter because we don't know where we will be working after graduation. In essense, we're starting to do research on good areas to live in so we can combine that with job opportunities.

Pricing would have to be 1.2k a month or lower.

Also, if anyone knows any websites where you can search for homes to rent, please let me know. We can find apartment rentals and home purchases, but not home rentals.

Yep, craigslist has a bunch of house rentals. You can also just call up real estate agencies in the areas you are targeting and ask for an agent doing rentals--these days there are a lot of them.

By the way, $1200/month isn't a bad amount to work with, particularly if you are also prepared to pay utilities (if you want that to include utilities, that is going to cut back significantly on your options). The nicest places in the nicest neighborhoods will be a bit more (sometimes a lot more), but you should otherwise have plenty of options.

I'd suggest looking at areas right outside the city for house rentals, especially if you are looking to save money. My friends that currently live in rented homes live in Swissvale and Edgewood - both are nice areas with cheap rent. I'd recommend craigslist or just driving around neighborhoods looking for FOR RENT signs when you are ready to start looking. Oops - forgot about friends in Greenfield - that's another option. I think they pay about 1k for a 2 bedroom home. Good luck with your search.
