non-collegiate sororities/fraternities?
I will be moving to Pittsburgh next week, and I'm a recent college graduate and next year I am becoming a grad student at Pitt. My undergraduate college didn't have greek life, and I've always regretted missing that opportunity. I know there's a number of non-collegiate and/or service sororities around the country, but I'm having a difficult time seeing if there are any chapters in Pittsburgh.
Does anyone know if any sororities or co-ed fraternities exist in the Pittsburgh area??? Thanks!

I think you're probably using the wrong search terms. I've never heard of anything called a "service sorority" but I know of a ton of "service clubs." You should check out the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Lions, Knights of Columbus, Moose Club, Freemasons, etc.
Make sure to check out the requirements for joining so you won't waste your time. Some of these are male-only clubs. I'm sure there are female-only service clubs as well, but I'm a guy, so I really don't know them. Also, check out some local club groups. If meeting people and serving the community is what you are interested in, then your local church is certainly the best way to do that. If you go to a fair size church, then they will probably have different groups meeting each night. 1 night a week might be a group specially for men, another women all meet, then couples, then young adults, etc. You might also want to check out big brothers/big sisters, or the girl scouts. I know the boy scouts always like volunteers, so I assume the girl scouts are always looking for adult volunteers as well to help the kids and go on trips.

Yes they do exist! (well at least a co-ed fraternity...) "Alpha Phi Omega is a National Service Fraternity" (From the APO website) [/SIZE]

Omega Phi Alpha is the national service sorority that is the counterpart to Alpha Phi Omega...except that now APO accepts female members (called "brothers," just as the men).
There are others. Google it. Many are more "regional" than national, and many, MANY more are 1-chapter locals.
But service sororities (and fraternities) are indeed out there.
I know there are at least a couple of non-collegiate sororities: Beta Sigma Phi and P.E.O. Sisterhood. There may be fraternities, too.

My sorority used to have a non-campus based chapter in Pittsburgh; however it went inactive some time ago.
I would love to start the chapter up again. But the interested women would need to be enthusiastic about it. If not, then it's not worthwhile.

At least as of a few years ago, I believe there was a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

I doubt very many people around here could answer your questions. Your best bet would be to go to a website like GreekChat.com which is a message board focused on Greek life.
