Visiting Pittsburgh where to go out
I will be visiting Pittsburgh in two weeks. Going to a Pirates game. Looking to go out after for some beers. Where should I go. I am on the other side of the river. Apprx 2.5 miles from PNC Park.
I've been to Pittsburgh once before and went to the Church Brewery (name?)
I'm with two friends. Ages 22. We aren't into the club scene. Some place with a decent amount of people, good beer, some music, etc (not looking to dance)
Last time I was in Pitts I stayed at Sheraton Station Square Hotel and it looked like there were 4/5 bars right there. How are they on a Friday.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not a big fan of Station Square, but if that's where you're staying there are a bunch of bars to choose from. They're usually crowded on weekends with lots of 20somethings.

Where exactly are you staying? "on the other side of the river" isn't terribly descriptive considering we have three!
Wherever you are, you're sure to find your type of bar on the Southside. It's pretty easy to get to by bus from Station Sq, Oakland, and other neighborhoods. If it's beer you're looking for, the Hofbrauhaus in the Southside Works (near East Carson and S. 28th or so, further towards the river) would be a good bet. But there are dozens of other bars along East Carson Street to choose from. Smokin' Joes on the corner of 20th and E Carson has some 60 beers on tap and tons more in bottles.

Disagree - D&B is fun, but not unique to Pittsburgh. I wouldn't tell you to go eat at Applebees, and I won't reccomend going to Dave and Busters unless you live somewhere that doesn't have one.
The Southside will be a much better representation of the Pittsburgh bar scene if that's what you are looking for.
Station Square is kind of a touristy type place with the usual franchise bars, but some of the bars are O.K. (more of a club scene with Matrix, Bar Pittsburgh, Buckheads, Saddleridge).
There are a few bars on the North Shore that are O.K. on the weekends, like the North Shore Saloon and the other bars on Federal St. near PNC Park, as well as Calico Jacks and Mcfaddens down towards Heinz Field (Mcfaddens is also a franchise bar, so it can also be found in other cities).
Oakland has a few college bars that are O.K. at times.
I would take a cab to the southside and head towards the lower numbered blocks. More bars than you will have time to see.

As others are suggesting, I'd go bar-hopping on Carson Street in the South Side. It is a fun scene on a weekend night.

Science Center, Heinz History Center, Strip District, East Carson Street, & Carnegie Museum. PNC Park is beautiful but the pirates are pathetic.

ok so it sounds as though Carson St is the place. Is it safe to assume we can float between 20th and 28th? Smokin' Joes Saloon Looks like a pretty good spot
