Default Oakmont

I grew up in Oakmont and I always see it mentioned on here as one of the best affordable suburbs in Pittsburgh. Why do people feel this way? Just curious to get an outsiders perspective.

I'm certainly not an expert on Oakmont, but I associate it with a variety of decent houses mostly on a classic grid, a nice little "downtown" area, and a good little school district. And then there is the country club, which is world-class.

Oakmont is on the same side of the river as Pittsburgh downtown, so this may help garner this reputation. Places just on the other side of the river may be ignored. Pittsburgh in general has a pretty cheap cost of living compared to most bigger cities. Has things to do, and is not quite a city. I never thought of it as a suburb, but I guess it would be.
