I got those kind of answers from the younger gangsta hip-hop crowd who listen to 50 Cent (yeech)..
which would explain the ignorance...have to find the dance and house music demographic here..

I agree considering where it's been since the 90s. I always thought that the fact that Pittsburgh was nestled completely between Detroit, Philadelphia, and NYC gave alot of added chance to go hopping about to different record spots.
This scene owes alot to Detroit IMO...however Pittsburgh is a drum and bass city at heart distinctly. I respect the guys doing it at Bloomfield Bridge Tavern for as long as they have. I respect and enjoy what alot of these DJs do and really would love to see more of an appreciation of something like that. I'm trying to help preseve that. You can't win over everybody...
Now at this point in my thread, I seriously have to apologize for the horribly misleading title of this thread seeing how the direction it went.

Does anybody know what did actually happen to all the clubs and venues that have closed down in Pittsburgh? Were they not profitable or not properly managed? Maybe no one ever got the promotion aspect of the business right?
It seems to me that there is in fact a lot of potential in Pittsburgh for good shows from good bands (not top 40 or classic rock) in a smallish/medium sized venue. Maybe no one has opened the right place with the right motivation yet?
I recently emailed Yo La Tengo to ask why they skipped over the city on their upcoming fall tour and they said that they did in fact try to book a show at Mr. Smalls when they would be in the area but Mr Smalls didn't have a slot open. Maybe that means their is potential if someone who knew how to operate a venue and book some appealing musicians would do so.

Clubs are a lot like restaurants - the chances of making it long term are very slim.

Especially in this economy. No one can afford to go see shows anymore, since they're worrying about eating and paying rent, and many are unemployed.

This whole thread seems to be about music but the title is "Pittsburgh has nothing to offer people aged 18-45." Maybe it doesn't have anything to offer some people aged 18-45 but there are a lot of people that really don't care about the electronic dance club scene and not having that is not the downfall of a whole city.
Here is what Pittsburgh does have... a great outdoor scene with lots of great road and mountain biking and skiing in the winter. A great arts scene with museums and public art and gallery crawls. A great family scene (since many of us aged 18-45 have kids) with nice parks and playgrounds and zoos and the Science Center. A great sports scene with great teams and a nice summer ballpark. A great cost of living with real estate that is affordable without the six figure salary. A great education community with lots of innovation and good universities.
I am sure there are more but my point is that Pittsburgh has lots to offer 18-45 years olds, just not every single one of them.

You guess seriously need to visit Louisiana, especially Baton Rouge and New Orleans. I know we had our hardships but based on this thread, entertainment wise you guys make us seem like the mecca of all extracurricular activity. Come on down and eat good & feel good.
