Census differences: Pittsburgh's population decreased 11.4% since 2000 and Columbus' population increased. Pittsburgh's median age is above the national average and Columbus's is below it.

People are right. For the most part, everyone has their niche here, they've likely grown up here. We are not very culturally diverse when comparing to other cities of our size. As people have said, Pittsburgh will STILL be here if I leave. And it will likely be just the way I found it.

It's an amazing place to settle down and not a place for adventure or excitement or something new and different. It just depends on what you are looking for and what stage of life you're in.

Post college, non-married with kids life here can get really stagnant, really quickly.

I think it's strange that a lot of people who don't dig Pittsburgh argue that those of us who do like it here can't have seen the world and don't know any better. Not true. Most of my friends and colleagues are also transplants who like it here. For me, Pittsburgh is just right. Not the case for everyone, of course, but my appreciation of the city doesn't make me a simpleton.

Fleetiebelle, I am Pittsburgh born and raised. I wasn't inferring that you haven't seen what's going on outside of here. I can't from any place but my own experience. Pittsburgh has this magnetism and keeps people who grew up here and often brings them back home if they have left. That's what is charming about it...it's comfortable...and will always welcome you back...

I don't think you are a simpleton, I am sorry that you got that impression.

But you are right, it's not for everyone.

Pittsburgh actually is "new and different" if you weren't born here. I'm a transplant and the city is like a different country compared to Michigan. It's so unique.

Just curious, alleghenyangel, how long you have lived here and what's your age range?

I believe this would be his point.. nobody in this place cares or enjoys the art and entertainment of the new generation.

If every electronic dance DJ moved out of Denver tomorrow, there would be a sorrow march made by thousands down Colfax that next day, as someone whose enjoyed and knows many promoters and folks in that scene in Denver, I can say this with 100% certainty and truth.

A good friend who was a well known promoter there died recently and huge crowd of people organized merely by the internet and text messages showed up to a candle light vigil for him. That was an act of a generation Pittsburgh will never know, because it doesn't want to.

I have been here 5 months and after 2 I was dying to leave and next week I will, off to kansas city because there is nothing whatsoever to give life to anyone 18-45 here in Pittsburgh.

Feel free to quote this with a "get out and have a good life" as I'm sure many of you exclusivist Pittsburghers want to.

To the OP, I can get you connected with a promoter in Denver if you're serious about moving out and have some awesome music to showcase for him. If he likes it he could get you some gigs in Denver clubs to start getting on your way out of Pittsburgh.

Direct message me if interested..

Jesus, if Pittsburgh doesn't fit your narrow interests MOVE.

Everyone should move to different places anyway.

But starting ignorant threads demonstrates how immature you and not much else.

Talk about "exclusivist"

It is true. People just pull anything out of their behind and blame Pittsburgh. Then we are somehow "typical" for not understanding. This is their mind supposedly justifies their argument. Give me a frickin' break. To me, it is a non-issue because no city can specialize in everything. The best cities have a little bit of everything and a lot of many other things, good or bad. Pittsburgh would fall into that category.

I'm 24 and I have lived here a little over a year now. I love Pittsburgh. However, there is no denying that large portions of the city are in a state of decay. That would be my biggest complaint about the city, although with the population loss the city has suffered it really couldn't be any other way. I have seen improvements in the short time I have lived here, though. The renovation taking place on Fifth Ave. downtown, the restoration of the McCook Mansion in Shadyside, several residential conversions of historic buildings, etc. Several of the city's neighborhoods seem very neglected, though. And by that I mean neighborhoods with tons of potential within the city (Troy Hill, Spring Hill, East Allegheny, parts of the Strip, Uptown/Bluff, parts of Oakland, Manchester, etc.) are just blighted with abandoned buildings and neglected properties that I wish could be restored.
