Name one time where I called a poster a name here! C'mon do it!! Posters are free to critique country music if they don't like it,...

I didn't say you called anyone a name did I?

But if I were to say, "I like the country they're making today. Country, as played by Haggard and Jones, is crap", you'd infer from that that I think your taste in music is crap, wouldn't you?

All I'm saying is that you need to recognize the difference between saying, "I personally prefer some other kind of music", and, "The kind of music you prefer is crap." The former allows us, and our different tastes, to remain equals, while the latter puts me and my taste above you and yours.

I only point it out because it's exactly the same attitude being displayed between two varieties of country music as is displayed by those who prefer a different genre altogether, and think country, any country, is crap.

Does that make sense?

(And not that it matters one iota, but my radio is most often on WDVE, and sometimes on Y108, which I'm sure makes me a total musical Philistine in some people's book, one way or the other, or even both ways, but I don't really care...)

Not to denigrate you, but did you have to look it up?

Oh, and for those of you that like country music, denigrate means make fun of.

Guys, the denigrate comment is an old, old, old joke I first heard Bob Newhart do about a million years ago. He made it in reference to those from West Virginia. It can be used for any circumstance.

My guess now is people are thinking, Who the heck is Bob Newhart?

You are wrong ONCE AGAIN! I would NOT infer that your taste in music is crap if you said you didn't like Cash, Haggard or Jones, but prefer Toby or Tim McGraw. Critique traditional country music all you want.

You are MISSING the point here! There are posters in this thread (GO BACK to the first several posts and re-read to refresh your memory!) who have called country music lovers country bumpkins, hillbillies, stupid by condescendingly defining denigrate. THAT is what I am complaining about. I could care less if you didn't like my type of music. I could care less if you critique my type of music. What I care about is that posters are being called names here because they happen to like that type of music.

Although from a purely economic standpoint, I agree that this is good news.

TexasGirl, I think you're missing the regional humor since you're from Texas.

They're not calling all country music lovers Hillbillies. They're saying country music lovers in Pittsburgh would be Hillbillies.

It's because Pittsburgh is in Appalachia. (Think Beverly Hillbillies --- they were from Tennessee which is in Appalachia.)

Nobody would call a country music person from the south a Hillbilly, nor one living in Texas.

They're making MORE fun of the fact that we live in Appalachia.
