Hello, My name is Jayson, But on the internet I go by Mr. Punter... I recently got offered a job on the North Shore, and will start there on August 31st. I currently live in Irwin, but am looking to move to Pittsburgh. My college roommate also got a job and is moving in with me. We have looked at a few places but nothing is really in our price range. I found a listing on Craigslist for an apartment in Hazelwood on Hazelwood Ave....

I'm trying to get some more information about the area, Is Hazelwood a decent place to live?, Is it safe?, Is there anything I should know about the neighborhood? Is the anything to do?, I know its close to both the Waterfront and the Southside, which is nice.

I greatly appreciate any impute.

I have a friend who owns rental property in Hazelwood.

I wouldnt call it the safest area of Pittsburgh.

I also think you can find something more convenient to the North Shore.

What part of town will your roommate be working? What's your price range?

Hazelwood is a little dumpy. You'd be better off in nearby greenfield or somewhere else entirely.

You can't find a place you can afford in Pittsburgh with two people splitting the rent? What are you budgeting?

He works on Liberty near the point. I work a block away from PNC Park. Our budget is 1200 a month...including utilities. I could do more but my employer doesnt offer health benifits because its a contract job.... but I will get them eventually..... We were also looking at Greentree. and Morningside/Highland Park.... I don't want to live in Oakland or the North Side

The Greentree area would be a good choice, a lot of rentals in that area. I'd stay out of Hazelwood.

You could try Dormont or Mt. Lebonon, and you could both take the T to work. Mt. Washington might be a good option as well.

I'm having a hard time believing that you can't find a 2 bedroom for under 1,200/month including utilities.

There are tons of two bedrooms for 600-800/ month plus utilities. The utilities would easily stay under 1,200.

Morningside is nice.

Also consider Ross, North Hills, West View, Etna, Brighton Heights or Bellevue.

Look at Bloomfield. It'd be closer to work for both of you. Do a craigslist search for it. There are loads of 2 BR apartments under 800.
