There are some really cute houses within your price range in the rural areas. When you're asking about the type of community, I'd say you'll have better luck sticking with the rural areas and staying away from looking at the river towns along the Ohio River. Those towns are more likely to be in decline. The rural areas tend to have more people who live there because they like rural living, not because they're stuck there like people tend to be in a dying river town like Aliquippa.

I don't think anyone would send them to Aliquippa, although I suspect the houses are cheap there. It's tough for that town, which never had any recovery from what happened in the 70s and 80s. I don't know how it's going to change when it's not going to attract anyone new and the only people left are those who are stuck....

BTW, you didn't mistake my Aleppo for Aliquippa, did you? Aleppo Borough is next to I-79 and Rt 65 in the Quaker Valley school district. North to south those towns along the river starting at the Beaver border are Leetsdale, Edgeworth, Sewickley, Osborne then Aleppo, then you get to I-79. Most of Aleppo is kinda rural, actually. I'm not sure there is any commercial area in the borough at all.

No. I simply used Aliquippa as an example to answer an earlier question of hers about good/bad areas. I was trying to reassure her about areas like Aleppo.

Thanks for the tip about the Aleppo house. I'll check that one out. I had given up on Quaker Valley because it was too pricey. Although I'm not sure if we could get the seller concessions we need if it's a short sale. But I'll check it out!

I'm a little mad at myself tonight because I started looking into neighborhoods I had given up on and found a beautiful house in the North Hills district (close to Ross area) that is under contract already. Although the lot isn't big, it mentioned it was directly across the street from a small park! Grrr..

And thanks Hopes for the comment about rural areas. Although I noticed most were experiencing population decline (I research them all to consider for potential resale if we ever have to move), it's true that people aren't "stuck" there but want to be there.
