I heard a rumor that protesters are already in Pittsburgh squatting in vacant buildings.

I've also seen a number of poorly dressed people, or as my mother would say, ragamuffins, in areas where I've never seen them before.
Well, I guess tht answers the question I asked way back when this was first announced....

Hmmm....I wonder if G20 protestors are the type to go bar hopping in the South Side? May be a good week to avoid there too...

Agreed that it's doubtful they are bar hoppers, but I wonder if it's possible that they are responsible for the latest mugging wave?

I hope they don't love Pittsburgh so much that they stay. Then again, winter will probably chase them away in a few months.

I would think it matters more where they work than where they live. If even one of the adults in that family has to travel downtown for work then I could see them instead planning to go away that weekend to not have to deal with it all.

Some may just be anticipating traffic issues, such as rolling road closures at indeterminate times between airport and downtown, that sort of thing. There's no way to predict precisely the effect those will have, but it's pretty certain they will exist and could affect certain suburbs.

Also, West Mifflin is strangely affected because apparently at least some delegations will use the County Airport. Schools there are closed for those two (three perhaps) days because of some schools' and the school district office's proximity to that airport's entrance.

Otherwise, life in most suburbs will not be affected that much except that I would expect a lot of hotels to be full even pretty far outside of downtown.

You don't specify which suburbs. If you mean something in the North Hills, and none of the family works in a possible affected area, then they may just be crazy. ;-) But you would have to know a lot more details than just where they live.
