Default Some fun pics I took around Pittsburgh, the Strip, and Millvale

Downtown, "Chinatown Inn"

More images of Millvale to follow.

Now, moving on to the Strip...

School in Strip, circa 1870.

Some of the remaining homes in the Strip. How I love these old row houses, the last reminders of a time when the Strip was also residential..

Some of these buildings appear to be very old, perhaps civil war-era or older.

Pittsburgh's gritty industrial past, old warehouses and factories. I love them.

Thanks for some really interesting material! The Hotel Wentz, for example, is a fascinating building.

In Millvale, on the stretch of Evergreen Road between Friday and Seavey roads.

Envision an old-fashioned western movie style hotel with a salon on the first floor. That's what this place was.

It was probably a very nice little hotel with full service dining in its heyday.

From the 1960s (or earlier) until the early 1980s, the first floor was a dive bar and the upper floors were rooms for rent.

Families on the verge of homelessness ended up there all living in one room.

I assume the building is condemned now.

The Hotel Wentz is at 701 Evergreen Rd. in Millvale. I looked it up on the county website. It is assessed for $48,000. Wish it was for sale -- I'd buy it and fix it up.

Contac the owners. I'm sure they'd sell. It has been abandoned/vacant for years.

I do too.

You were so close, but didn't take a picture of "The Brake House", at 25th and Liberty. Supposedly George Westinghouse developed the air brake there. It's now been turned into condos. I did some work there.

* I planted those trees. (Among other things.)
