Default Mexican War Street question

where did the name come from? I don't assume that there was a war with the Mexicans as far north as Pittsburgh. Anyone know?

Google and Wiki are your friends. See the explanation below:

Quote:
The Mexican War Streets were laid out in 1848 by General William Robinson, Jr. who later became mayor of the city of Allegheny. Just returned from service in the Mexican–American War, he subdivided his land and named the new streets after the battles and generals (Buena Vista Street, Filson Way, Monterey Street, Palo Alto Street, Resaca Place, Sherman Avenue, Taylor Avenue) of that war.

Here's a very detailed account of the history of the Mexican War Streets:

Mexican War Streets Historic District, Pittsburgh City, Allegheny County, Pittsburgh PA 15212

Although it doesn't provide more information as to the name (which is pretty straight forward in wiki), it has a lot of information about when and how the streets were developed along with more Robinson family history.

In all seriousness, contact your BBS administrator and have them show you how to use WebCrawler. I find it an indispensable tool when surfing the World Wide Web and it cuts down on bandwidth usage, meaning you're not cluttering up the bulletin boards with questions that you could answer all by yourself. It's a brave new world!
