Well there are plenty of Confederate battle flag decals on pickup trucks in every suburb and exburb around Pittsburgh, so I guess that means the city is an oasis of Northern surrounded by Southerners who just won't admit defeat, eh?

No Pittsburgher on the street will tell you the Burgh is anywhere but in the Northeast or "East Coast" (using the slang term)...

They're not going to say Appalachia, or Interior and damn sure not the Midwest. People just can't say Northeast and be done with it, I'll never understand.

You and others really need to start documenting this, because I've been back to Pittsburgh in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2010 and this past summer, and I've driven all over western Pennsylvania each and every time, both on major roads and back roads, and over 1,000 miles each time, but I can only recall one instance of it. One. Cell phones have cameras on them now, so document it. It shouldn't be hard to do if it's even half as ubiquitous as you and others proclaim it to be. Until then, my own eyes tell me that it's very rare to see a Confederate battle flag anywhere in western Pennsylvania.

Now you can say you've seen two.

Some people on here also see & warn of dragons as soon as they leave their east end enclave.

Sadly WPA is full of rednecks and wannabe Confederates. It's perhaps the most embarrassing attribute of this region. I saw the battle flag waving from a house just outside Deer Lakes Park here in Allegheny County a couple months ago.

There was a letter to the editor in the P-G last year from a new Murrysville resident highlighting the unusual prevalence of Confederate sympathizers in our Northern region.

Confederate flag wavers here proudly display their ignorance - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

About a year ago I moved to Westmoreland County, which is rural and what some consider the "Real America." I was shocked by the number of Confederate flags proudly displayed on people's cars, homes and T-shirts out here. You would think that this area was a part of Dixie!

I only hear this in CD forums. I visit Pittsburgh often. I never hear the "Appalachia" reference EVER. It's East Coast. Nothing can convince me otherwise. Hell, I live about an hour from "Appalachian State". Pittsburgh is nothing like this area.

I object to this poll on the grounds that it includes neither the "This AGAIN?" or the "Who gives a good goddamn?" responses as options.
