I did hear that Q92 (formerly Lite FM 92.9) is now playing classic soul and lite R+B at 9pm during the week. It's called "Q In the City."

Eddie Edwards bought a AM station and has plans to turn it into a new WAMO type format.

My opinion is to let sleeping dogs lye.

Rap music is not what it once was and trying to make all these changes - just to suit a certain segment of the population is not good for us.

In these hard times, we all need to be Americans, and not Afro Americans, or Spanish American's or what other type of groups who wants to segregate themselves from the population.

We all need to be AMERICANS!

If the colored segment of the population wanted a purely black radio station, they would have supported the sponsors of the programs on the radio station and the sponsors would have made enough money to keep paying for air time to broadcast their commercials and the radio station would not have been up for sale, sold and moved to different channels so many times.

Change is all a part of life.

There is nothing that says that we have to listen to WDVE the rest of our life. But if you can remember - 14 KQV was the parent station of WDVE and they played as many as 50 minutes a hour of rock and roll back in the 50's and 60's and early 70's and the station still was changed to talk radio and forgotten forever.

How many of you can remember waking up to KDKA in the morning?

KAAY DEEE KAAY AYEE Pittts burgh..

Being excited to learn that there was a major snow storm the night before and that schools were closed and you could stay home and have some fun.

You would sit there beside your AM radio just praying that Jack Bogut would call your schools name - even if you lived 60 miles away, they had all the news.

Now we have television and the internet and we don't need the radio or a newspaper to give us our morning news, weather and high school, college and National Football league scores.

I'm one of that 'colored' segment of the population whose 'wants and needs' you so airily want to dismiss...funny, but last time I looked, hyphenated political correctness aside, I was and still am an American citizen...and so are all the other 'hyphenated' folk out there...

Why is it such a crime for people to want to hear music and programming aimed at their specific racial or ethnic demographic? I don't volutarily 'segregate myself from the rest of the population' as you so snarkily put it, and as I said in another post on the Politics forum, I'm sorry if we are upsetting your monochromatic, plain-vanilla, Pleasantville version of America, but tough *****...I don't recall anyone having died and named you lord and master of all things media/political correctness

And by the way, 'colored' is so yesterday...if people WANT a black or hispanic or asian or Polish or German or Chilean or whatever radio station/newspaper/supermarket, then they will by-God ASK for it, and if they have the necessary capital, they will then BUY and BUILD and PUBLISH and BROADCAST to their heart's content, without needing permission from people who obviously have some 6th-grade NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) agenda such as yours...

This is one sleeping dog you really should not have awakened...because at the end of the day, we ARE all Americans, and this IS the United States Of America---NOT the United States Of 'Non-Caucasians Better Know Their Place'...'nuff said

Eddie Edwards will also hire the 'colored' broadcasting professionals who are shut out of the pittsburgh market. He specifically stated that he will create a balanced FM station in addition to the AM 'colored' news station. Black music similar to what was played on AM 860 (real music)

I guess Jesse Jackson died and left captaincatfish in charge of representing the black population in Pittsburgh.

My opinion is - when they open the station, I am going to claim equal opportunities and ask for a job and if they don't give me a job, I am going to get all my white friends and go down to the new studio's and picket the place until they hire some white people down there.

Here is the press release pertaining to the New proposals for WPYT - AM 660.

Mon, 2009-10-05 16:25
Eddie Edwards is purchasing Alex Langer's WPYT (660), a 1,400-watt daytime-only station licensed to Wilkinsburg, according to KDKA-TV.

The station --- which currently airs a mix of brokered shows and programs from Langer's "National Radio Network" --- broadcasts from the 1550 tower in Braddock Hills.

Edwards plans a format of talk aimed at the African-American community, KDKA reports.

The deal is pending FCC approval. More details as we receive them.
UPDATE: The cost of the purchase is $500,000 and the FCC approval is expected to take about 90 days. Edwards hopes to get the new format on the air in January. First though, he needs to find a new studio and is hoping to find a location either in Forest Hills or Monroeville. Eventually his plan is to acquire an FM which would have classic R&B targeted to older listeners. Although Edwards was "happily retired," he decided to get back into the business to bring the African-American voice back to Pittsburgh and to give young minorities the opportunity to find jobs in the radio industry. He plans to hire 15 full and part-time people initially. E.O.

Not so---I don't claim to be the 'voice' of the black population in Pittsburgh, or anywhere else for that matter...and no, Rev. Jackson did NOT die and anoint me his successor...

However, I WILL continue to express my opinion in these matters, just as YOU have the right to express yours---I cannot and will not deny you that...

If I'm wrong, then I will apologize, but you seem to have a 'burr under your blanket' about black folk when it comes to this particular issue...if you present yourself at the new station's HR office, resume in hand, and you are qualified to fill a position, then you should be hired---just because Mr Edwards is aiming the station at the 'black' market, doesn't mean that qualified people of ANY race shouldn't be hired...

But, if all you're doing is grandstanding and 'rattling pots and sabres' to get a rise out of someone, then your quest should be stamped 'EPIC FAIL', because there's quite enough of this race-card-pulling, race-baiting BS going on on BOTH sides---time out for that nonsense

You and your white friends should picket all Pittsburgh radio stations for not hiring black radio professionals! Don't be bitter. Who in the hell said that Jesse Jackson represented the black race? You watch to much Fox News.
