I seriously doubt you hurt anyone's feelings, haha. It is a touchy subject for some though. Is it a ridiculous law? Yes, it doesn't bother me though.

I don't think anyone's feeling have been hurt (well mine haven't ). Look, I've lived in pgh for 26 years and still haven't come to terms with the strange licensing laws. Coming from England, I can't understand why you can't go to one place and buy beer, wine AND spirits all at the same time. You just learn to deal with it. At least some state stores are now open on Sunday, which for a long time they weren't.

Haha, the only place I have ever seen, or went into one of those, was way-out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere, WV.

I first came to Pittsburgh 16 years ago, and it also still strikes me as a silly collection of laws. But in the end you can work around it (although I really wish shipping wine here wasn't such a PITA).

They are all over the DC suburbs and in the Chicago area.
Edit: Here's one of the chains that is in the DC area (among other places):

And here is the chain we used to use in Chicago:

This one's across the river from Cincinnati: The Party Source. It's kind of a tradition to pick someone up from the airport (which is in N. Ky,) then go buy a lot of booze on the way home.

Giant Eagle is seeking licenses to sell beer at in-store cafes located in eight western Pennsylvania Giant Eagles, including New Kensington and Allegheny Township. The plan would allow patrons to buy two six-packs at a time or drink beer in the cafes.

Pretty well answered looks like. If there's an orange sign at your Giant Eagle, it will soon have some kind of separated area of the store (has to be separated, marginally) that is a cafe of sorts, and they'll be able to sell beer. Just beer. It's a restaurant or bar sort of license, so you can buy up to two 6-packs. You may be able to buy singles; I seem to remember a cooler of singles in the one grocery in PA where I've actually witnessed this setup (Wegmans in Wilkes-Barre).
If it is in fact Wexford that you're wondering about, the best place to get beer in smaller quantities is 3 Sons Dogs and Suds. It's another quirk of PA law, the "bottle shop". This is also a restaurant type license, but the key is the huge selection of bottled beer. And, instead of buying 6 of the same kind, you can mix and match your 6-pack from hundreds of varieties. 3 Sons Dogs and Suds Free tastings every Thursday evening, too!
I believe the Seven Fields Giant Eagle is fairly far along in their license process. It may be the first in the area to open.

PA is torn between the Repuplicans and their moral beliefs and the Democrats support for the unions.
The Republicans think that the Liquor Control Board, the current alcohol laws, and the State Stores all help to curb underage drinking. Thus, the Republicans don't want to change the laws.
The Democrats are in bed with the Unions that run the State Stores, so the Democrats don't want to change the laws.
Hence the stalemate....

First time I ever heard that argument concerning the Republicans. I always heard it was the Tavern Owners association that fight it tooth and nail due to all the money they make selling 6 packs.
