Default Finally! Moving back to Pittsburgh!

Hi everyone,
Yes, after being here in CA for about 4 years, I'm finally moving back. Previous attempts have been foiled by various things (not enough money saved up, could not find apartment I liked, etc), but this time all seems to be working out.

Will start my trip Thursday, and will take 6 days to drive. I plan on seeing many Rt.66 sites along the way.

I am so happy to have the chance to get back. And I'll get to go to Kennywood before they close for the season! Me so happy. Just wanted to share.

Wow, and I thought 4 years was long! Where were you at those 35 years, and where in Pittsburgh are you now?

Welcome back.

Unfortunately, when I graduated from high school in 1982, there were only three options available. Go to college, go to a trade school or get a job.

With the unemployment as high or higher then it is now, the only way to get a job was to know someone or to move away.

In time it got so bad that almost half of everyone I knew that graduated from high school with me had moved away. The only people left became drug addicts and alcoholic's, or they got married and you never saw them again.

That didn't leave much in the dating pool.

After a while, you get tired of dating 18 to 21 year olds and you just quit going out all together or you become a Steelers / Penguins fan.

There still is not much to do in Pennsylvania anymore.

Baby boomers flew out of the nest, only to find out that it is a cruel world out there and it is safer to move back home with mom and dad and let them worry about the bills and stuff. Usually - when they return they have baggage - kids.

So as mom and dad gets older, they cannot retire because they cannot live on their meager pensions and the added burden of kids coming back home with kids forces them back into the workforce.

When you return home, you will find that nothing has changed.

Hi There,
I'm originally from the philly area, but moved out to San Diego back in 2003. I've been out here about 6 years now, but I'm am soo ready to move back east. I'm looking into the Pittsburgh, Philly, and Jersey area. I haven't decided on the location yet, but alot depends on if my job will allow me to work remotely. I guess I just had a few general questions for you:

* How was making the drive/move in 6 days? How much approx did you spend (if you don't mind me asking?)
* Did you find it easy to adjust to East Coast living again?
* When updating your drivers license did you have to take the test again or did the DMV just transfer your license info?
* Did you have a job lined up before you moved?

Sorry for the general questions! Making the decision to move back East is more scary than making the decision to move out to CA I guess because of the economy and all. Any insight would be helpful!

Thanks in Advance!
