This charming parklet made out of an old bridge pier in the North Shore and featuring a sculpture of Fred Rogers is scheduled to be unveiled November 5:

Fred Rogers - A Tribute to Children

As someone who grew up watching Mr. Rogers, I think it is great he is getting such a prominent placement (with a spectacular view), and I hope/expect it will become a significant destination for visitors.

Anyway, you can poke around that site for more information about the parklet--including construction photos from various stages--and the sculpture. I thought it was particularly cool to see how they cut apart the pier and then reassembled it to form the opening:

Oh so THAT'S what that thing is. I was biking the Riverfront Trail a few weeks ago and wondered why they are building a brick wall with a hole in it. lol
