This is definitely a "to each their own" issue. For instance, I love crisp, sunny winter days a la Colorado and New Mexico. However, my Irish-American wife and sun are very fair, and I worry that they are not suited for living in the sun of the Southwest, but the Pacific Northwest gloom is fine. I do know that when it snows out here, it feels much brighter to me, so I actually look forward to it. I think it really comes down to what you are most sensitive to. I can tolerate some gloom, and I may not be elated, but I muddle along. I suspect that Pittsburgh would be actually a little brighter than W. Oregon in winter, and that would be just fine for me at least.

The worry I do have is that there really is no dry period in Pittsburgh. Here in S. Oregon, the winters are wet and gloomy, spring and fall mixed, and summers are hot and sunny. Does the weather get more sunny as the spring and summer come on, or is it gloom year-round? That might get to me.

I've never had anybody I've befriended here say "sorry, I'd hang out with you but I have to hang out with my extended family instead." By all means though, let's perpetuate C-D stereotypes. This website would cease to exist without them, after all.

FYI: Pittsburgh has lost half its population since 1950! It's also cloudy here (a LOT) and if you don't like football, you're pretty much screwed. Did I miss anything?
Yes, I'm sure of that. She's not related to me; she married my nephew. They were very excited to be moving there and we felt it was not our place to say anything. Also, it all went very fast; they left about a week after my nephew was offered the job so their daughter could be there for the first day of kindergarten.

I think the issue with everyone having family is that people just didn't seem to reach out so much; were always talking about doing things with family, etc.

I am trying to be civil here. I'm not "trying to perpetuate stereotypes". I am repeating what I was told. Sorry if you don't like hearing it. Regarding the Steelers, they said they thought Denver was sports-crazed until they moved to Pittsburgh. Are you disputing that Pittsburgh is cloudy in the winter?

There hasn't been a cloud in the sky for the past two days. Summers are usually like that, with plenty of days throughout the year, too. The weather here is overblown. Ignore statistics, they ignore all the periods of sunshine in any given "partly cloudy" day.

I'm saying most places are cloudy in the winter. I guess Denver isn't but most places are.

No, Denver is not cloudy in the winter, as a general rule. I don't understand why some of you guys don't get that a change takes some getting used to, even if it's positive. We get people on the Denver forum complaining about our weather (mostly snow), and we are a little more tolerant than some people on this forum.

BTW, did I mention the Steelers?

But what about the 7 days prior? My wife is dying to go to Florida to see the sun. I like this area, but I don't wear blinders, bright sunny days in the winter are not that plentiful.

Look: I wouldn't know what goes on in Denver, as I don't live there. I don't even keep up with what goes on in Richmond, VA. I was born there, I grew up there, and I MOVED ON. Moderator cut: rude
