BTW, did I mention the Steelers?
I will agree with this, Denver is surprisingly sunny in the winter, as is much of the Southwest. And cool winter sunshine is just plain nice. That was very exotic for me, because I am used to cloudy winters. The northern states from N. Cal to Wyoming to Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York and parts north are cloudy in winter. The southern states are not. The trade off in the West, at least is that the sunny winter places have tiny trees and pathetic little streams and are drought and fire prone. But they do have sun when you need it! Here in Oregon, and in Pennsylvania, the very wet, cloudy climates are kind of a drag in winter, but that rain and snow recharges the groundwater, allowing lovely forests and wildflowers, wetlands, and big, deep, gorgeous rivers. So, when I am sitting home on a cold, rainy night, I just think of all the good work the rain is doing. Personally, I would like to keep living in a winter wet climate, but visit a sunny one for about 1-2 weeks in late winter, if possible. That is the perfect compromise for me.

She is right. I asked for western-experienced posters, and I am glad she posted. I am capable of thinking for myself, and I don't care if they are negative, so long as they are true to their personal view. I know full-well that Katiana moved to Colorado. Sounds like it was the right decision for her. I am really excited about Pittsburgh, but not many folks head east from the West, so those that did, or did not are of interest to me here. And the Nieces posts were pretty specific to her situation, but presumably honest. Like I said, I would rather have all the posts and sort them out, than for people to be censored.

Thank you, Fiddlehead. Yes, those were my niece's personal experiences, being a young mom moving to Pittsburgh. I don't know why other posters have to jump on me about not "moving on", etc, any time I post anything less than glowing. I also related my niece's positive feelings about Pittsburgh, which were totally ignored by some.

Pgh ain't heaven, that's for sure. I wonder about posters that get upset with a differing opinion. Who better to compare Denver vs Pgh than someone who has spent 1/2 her life in both places, like Katiana.

Uh oh, I hear Yac coming, gotta go.

No, but West Virginia is almost heaven according to John Denver, and Pittsburgh is right up the road. Maybe he had that Rocky Mountain High like Katiana when he wrote Country Roads.

Nice! I have wondered about John Denver and that song. I think he liked mountains a lot, in all areas. How are the mountains of W. Virginia? I did a vacation in the Great Smoky Mts. once, and it was like paradise. Do the W. Virginia Mts. compare even slightly?

The mountains are comparable in West Virginia. West Virginia is well known for it's outdoor recreation, camping, hunting, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping over New River Gorge etc.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uenYp...eature=related

My mother was from West Virginia. Whenever we would visit our grandparents, we'd all break out in song as we crossed the state line! Good memories!

Looks nice! I am glad to get the postcard about the bungie jumping though. River rafting is more my thing.

When you live in Pittsburgh, all of that is just a few hours away. You can count on easy weekend getaways to West Virginia.
