not really no. they make some great beer out there but perhaps im not as easily impressed as you.
one of the great craft brewing states is true...epicenter? probably not. and besides...why else would one like a beer besides their own personal tastes? obv your personal tastes are closely aligned with the breweries in california whivh is the epicenter of your beer love.

I'm not sure why you persist with the belief that I said California is the epicenter of the craft-brewing center even after I've already disabused you of that belief. And it's not that my personal tastes are aligned with what's going on in California (it is and it isn't -- I'm not entirely on board with certain West Coast trends) but that it would be considered a top craft-beer by any objective measure as expressed by beer aficionados from around the country who give several California breweries very high marks and have made a number of them among the most respected breweries in the country.

Some people love California's breweries, others think they're too over the top where everything has to be "big" at all times. Either way, you can't deny the fact that this country is brewing some of the best beer in the world (if not the best).

When Scott Smith opened East End Brewing's "growler shop" in the Pittsburgh Public Market in the Strip District, he figured it would thin the crowds that squeeze into his Homewood brewery each week to fill half-gallon jugs with craft beers...
the brewery exhausted space for its kegs, and customers buying beer by the half-gallon consume so much of its seasonal varieties that little is left for distribution, he said.
Smith is working with the city's Urban Redevelopment Authority to purchase a building, and although he would not discuss its location until the deal is complete, he acknowledged that "we painted ourselves into a corner with the name of the brewery."

Well, I could have told him that (that selling at the Public Market would likely increase sales at his brewery as well).

By the way, the Utah Jazz think he can locate wherever he wants.

Either this is a rumor that East End is being bought out buy the Utah Jazz or that Scott is actually Karl Malone in disguise.

Yeah, I've never considered Dogfish to be a Philadelphia institution. They are as much DC and Baltimore (DC, Baltimore, and Philly are all roughly equidistant to Milton) as they are Philly. If you're going to lump Dogfish Head into PA, then you might as well lump some of the Oregon breweries into CA.

PA has some great brews, and overall, I'm a homer- I prefer the mid-Atlantic brews to the West Coast ones. That said, CA beats us from a sheer numbers perspective. It's hard to argue that anywhere on the east coast can compete on that level.

that's apples and oranges. dogfishead is 75 miles from Philly, portland is 630 miles from san francisco. not the same in the least. and whether or not you consider it in the PA area, it's most certainly in the midatlantic region. CA is a state but it makes up at least two regions while oregon is a distinct third region. PA is part of the mid-atlantic which is only one region of three like the west coast, but PA is but one state in this region (5 states?).

I always knew karl malone had class

Three Floyds is like 2000 feet from the Illinois State line and only about 20 mi. from Comiskey Park, putting it squarely in Chicagoland (which was my only point really, that it's a Chicago brewery).

flying fish is about 15 miles from citizens bank. neither flying fish nor three floyd's would show up in their "home states" on a state listing which was my point. same with dogfish head. the large western states don't have their regions split up...in fact, california encompasses more than one region.
