My understanding is that government money has been given to Uniontown to revitalize the downtown corridor. When an abandoned house/business is razed who foots the bill and will the parcel owner be paid for the parcel? Does the parcel owner have the option of keeping the razed empty lot and continue to pay the property taxes? Is proof of ownership and a title search performed before these actions can take place?
Thank you

If an abandoned house or business gets demolished by the city, then the property owner is responsible for the bill. If the owner doesn't pay, then I would think the government would put a lien on the property in which the property may or may not be sold. Normally they don't go into such extremes unless the property is rundown or hazardous to the general public.

I grew up in Uniontown and really don't get the whole "revitalization" thing. They basically fixed up the main stretch of road, put up an unsightly poster spanning the entire left side of a building(Oh that's not Godzilla, it's a 100 foot tall George Marshall!!!!!!), popped in a few stores, added some nice touches here and there, and then left everything else in town that sucks to stay completely untouched rundown. And what in the world were they thinking by placing a store in the middle of downtown that sells overpriced designer clothing? Who in Fayette County has interest in buying $80 ties? Every time I've been in that place, it was completely deserted due to lack of interest and well...$50 designer socks. Who actually bought any of that stuff? This is Uniontown and Fayette County, I mean come on!!!!! The outdoors shop was right on target and a perfect fit, and fixing up the State Theatre was great...but man, the designer clothing thing is just a total trip. Is it even still there?

The town is a hell of a lot better than before, I'll give it that, but the whole "Joe Hardy saves the town" thing turned out to be pretty ridiculous and impractical in a lot of ways. It was pretty much just a band-aid placed over main street to make the town look better for people passing through on their way to Nemacolin. It didn't really do anything to help out the town's economy or help solve any of the more important issues. I wish more of Superhero Joe's money would have been spread throughout the town as opposed to just fixing up that one stretch. I also miss the crazy fog lights coming from that one restaurant too..haha, that was pretty offbeat. And didn't Joe get mad and stop funneling his money into the town a couple years back or something like that? I haven't really been keeping up with that whole story.

I forget the name of that expensive place, but it is gone, as is the restaurant across the street called 30 East Main. I believe something else was supposed to replace 30 E Main (another restaurant) but it never panned out and both places are empty...I think. I thought fixing up the store fronts was a nice idea, but it was a poor choice to put those expensive shops there. It would have been nice to see a cheaper store there, like maybe a TJ Maxx. A place like that would have made money and been useful, perhaps leading to more shops to open up downtown.

As for what happened with Joe, I really don't know if he got mad or what. I know that he dropped out of the county commissioners race shortly after his quickie divorce with that 23 year old girl lol. I always liked Joe, he's a nice guy and lives life to the fullest. I wouldn't be surprised to see him marry some 19 year old insanely hot chick from Guatemala that works at Nemacolin.
