I'm from Florida and I'm enjoying this weather. THIS is what winter should be. I'd take 25 degrees and snowing any day over 35 degrees with an ugly rain.

It's cold, it's snowy, and it's gonna stay like this for the indefinite future. Bring it!

p.s. - It looks like the NWS just upped their snowfall forecast for the approaching storm. 2-4 inches tonight, another 2-4 inches Friday.

OK, not anytime soon, but I recently learned that one day, thanks to my land-collecting dad, I'll be acquiring some acreage in rural south-central VA and I'm planning to build an off-the-grid cabin (next to a river), 3 miles from the nearest road. It might actually be sooner rather than later, since he'll let me build on his property before it's mine, and I'm not sure how much more of society I can take. I've found a company that builds prefab solar-powered "green" homes for around the cost of a mid-priced sedan and as soon as I have enough equity built up in my current house, I'm outta here and yinz won't have me to kick around any more. And I certainly won't complain about the weather, even though since I'll have to drive a couple miles down some tire tracks through the woods to get home, I'll have a valid reason to.

.
Good luck, would love to do that. I have a few friends that live in Armstrong county that are pretty much off the grid. Well, septic, wood burning stove for heat, still have to have an electric line.

With all this pc "green" crap going around, you rarely hear solar power mentioned. My guess is if every house was self sufficient, the government would lose control.

Good luck.

Exactly...And I'm so sick of hearing all of the speculation on the topic. Each winter is different, and I kind of laugh when I hear people talking about how this has "never happened" here. Of course it has...in recent memory, and I'm only 32. The winter of 92-93 was much like this, if not even worse. I recall two blasts of extended snowy periods that year. One happened right around this time, and the second (and more notable) was the fabled Blizzard of '93, which occurred in March. I hope to hell that doesn't happen again.

Thanks. It might take awhile, what with needing income and a 4-wheel drive vehicle n'at, but once the house is built and the truck is bought, we probably wouldn't need to work full-time and could fill in the holes by doing odd jobs (or working in the Food Lion) in the nearest town (being generous with the T-word), which is about 20 minutes away. It'll be nasty in the winter, though, for sure.*

As for the whole "green" thing, we're not hippies but I have no problem living like one if it'll get the government/utility companies off my back. Living in the woods, stockpiling guns/dogs/goats/produce has pretty much been my lifelong dream.

My husband wanted to retire and live on our property in Venango County until I pointed out we wouldn't be able to physically manage living there full time by the time he retired.

Back on topic, I just checked the 10 day forcaste and it's SNOW, SNOW, SNOW for the next 10 days straight!

I like snow but not that much.

You want to see something really crazy? There is a chance of snow in my old hometown of Orlando, FL. That's right, a chance of snow at Disney World.

7-Day Forecast for Latitude 28.51°N and Longitude 81.38°W (Elev. 98 ft)

And check out Daytona Beach's forecast. They even use terms you hear here in the winter like "little or or no snow accumulation expected". Crazy.

7-Day Forecast for Latitude 29.19°N and Longitude 81.04°W (Elev. 10 ft)

Many meteorologists are comparing this winter to the winter of 1977, and that was the year Florida got a significant snowfall, even as far south as Miami.

First post! I was born in New Castle, lived in the Ellwood City area, then moved to Arizona in fourth grade. I miss the Pittsburgh area. I have visited there the past two summers and I love every moment of it. I miss the weather and the beautiful sites. In Arizona, it hardly rains and it never snows unless I go up north which is 2 hours away. Right now, it's about 65 and sunny. It's nice and all, but it isn't winter.

Cannot wait to move up back home!
