Pennslylvania Macaroni on Penn Avenue in the Strip. Penn Mac has been there for years and has quality at a fair price. They have every kind of cheese imaginable. Only the large older cities have stores like this. I have seen overpriced versions in some Sun Belt areas that are less authentic and act like olive oil is trendy. It used to be mostly people of Italian descent who shopped there, but the last twenty years or so people have discovered that there is more to Italian cuisine than spaghetti and meatballs. Penn Mac does a bang up business and deservedly so.

Prestogeorge in the Strip. Great coffee and fresh peanut butter.

Jay Design Soaps and Gifts in Lawrenceville.

Knit One in Squirrel Hill. Great selection of yarn, friendly staff.

Woody's Self Serve Dog Wash and Boutique near South Park. You wash the dog, they clean the tub.

Cercone's Barber Shop on Liberty Ave in Bloomfield. Real old-fashioned barber shop. $10 cuts, and the locals always stop in and chat. There's even a barber's pole outside.

Give it up for the Sharp Edge and Mad Mex empires, the latter of which has gone multi-state. (Do they still count as "local" if they've gone regional but started out local and are still headquartered locally? )

Definitely! If they started here and their headquarters remain here, they're local!

Great finds, everyone! I can't wait to try some of these! Keep them coming!
