I read some of the above responses and it seems some feel Pittsburgh lacks the population for a NBA team. If this is the case then Oklahoma City would not support a NBA franchise given it's very small market size. Roughly half of Pittsburgh's market size (1.3 million)

I think the more specific argument is that it doesn't have the population to support four major league teams at once, not that in the absence of the other three teams it would necessarily be impossible to support an NBA team.

I'm not sure I buy that argument, but it at least makes sense.

Without a doubt I am the lone Pittsburgh b-ball guru on this or any other forum.

NBA, never work in this town. Minor league, yes.

Hmmm I thought it was the Pittsburgh Rens but after researching I guess it died out in the 60's. Maybe they tried to get a team in Pittsburgh in the 80's? Point I'm trying to make is, I think the attitude in Pittsburgh as far as wanting change is much more different than it was back then.

Do a survey, I'd hazard a guess that less people want the NBA here now than in the 80's. At least back then guys threw passes and played like a team.

Denver? Denver is a metro roughly the size of Pittsburgh. 2.4 mil vs. 2.5 mil. They have 4 major league sports franchises. And I'd venture to guess our population is a bit more sports crazed as well.

There is very little rivalry between Pittsburgh and Detroit. We don't share a conference (in baseball a league) in any sport. Pens/Wings got a little hot, but we don't play them enough to sustain a rivalry.
