I have never been to Pittsburgh and will be visiting this summer. I would like to see St Wendelin church in Carrick, walk around the cemetery, and walk the length of Kirk Ave, which (at least on the map) looks to be adjacent. My grandmother (who I never knew) grew up on this street and her family built all the houses on Kirk Ave. to live in while they built St Wendelin. My husband is leery, since we don't know the city and will have our two small children with us. Can anyone tell me if this is a safe area? Thanks!

It is safe and I assume that you are planning on doing this during the day? St. Wendelin is in Carrick, but it is on the border of Baldwin Boro, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh. There are portions of Kirk Avenue that lack sidewalks and for that reason, I would be a little hesitant about walking with the children on that street. I hope that answers your question! Enjoy your visit. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
