As a regular poster here on the Pittsburgh forums, one of my favorite forums actually. However, I'm always curious about all kinds of places.

Pittsburgh has so many affordable yet safe neighborhoods...places where people of nearly any income can live, or so it seems to me.

Many other cities, particularly in the Northeast (i.e. NYC, DC, etc.)....you have to compromise safety issues for reasonable affordability.

Being that many people here are also familiar with Philadelphia. Are there similar neighborhoods in Philadelphia....or is the wealth/poverty extreme too great?

I'm posting it here, because the Pittsburgh perspective seems to reflect best what I'm looking at, etc. Plus very active and informative here as well.

The only area in Philadelphia that I can compare to a Pittsburgh neighborhood in terms of safety , resemblance ,old school feel etc.are the Manayunk,Wissahickon, Central and Lower Roxborough areas. They are in the hilliest part of the city and they look more like a typical neighborhood in Pittsburgh and much less as a typical neighborhood in Philly.

Mt Airy is pretty similar as well: a nice, safe, affordable area. I've lived here happily for six years.
