^ it has to be politics, because the pittsburgh left in traffic is the dumbest thing ever.

Properly applied (e.g., only in cases where the left-turner would actually be blocking through-traffic and their exit lane is clear), I think the Pittsburgh Left is an excellent traffic rule.

Hence the problem. It is never properly applied, people make assumptions, and cars collide.

You know, I sort of agree. It still makes my rear pucker every time I see someone do it though. You never know when the guy coming straight through isn't a local.

To be clear, it probably should be killed off now that most of the time you can't count on people knowing what is going on. But back when I first moved here (1993), it was absolutely standard at certain intersections, and generally people would make eye contact or flash their lights. So back then I think it was definitely a net positive.
