How much would it cost to build a cover over my porch? (house)

This winter we lost our covered awning on our back porch during to the snow fall. We filed it with our home owners, and already received our check. The deck with have is very good and sturdy attached to the back of the house. Deck and roof would NOT be enclosed.

Does anyone have any idea how much a permanent roof over the deck would cost? Nothing fancy or extreme. Information for what I envision is hard to find.

We put a small roof over a back porch area once--I want to say it was maybe 5'x12' at the max, and from the side was just a triangle. They did a nice job: it was beadboard vinyl on the ceiling part with beadboard panel inserts on the sides, all painted to match the house trim, with shingles to match the main roof. I believe the whole thing cost us something around $1500.

Hey did you end up getting it covered? I want to do the same thing and am wondering how much I should expect to pay. It is really hard to get quotes it seems...

Too many variables to really give you a ballpark. What size? Is it elevated or at grade (the porch/deck being covered)? Is it freestanding or tied into the house roof? If tied in, what type of roof and shingles do you currently have and are those materials still available and can they be matched? You can go on an on. For a decent sized porch, tied into the main roof structure and done by licensed, insured and overall quality contractors, you are probably looking northward of $3k and much more depending on the variables mentioned above. If you want to get your hands dirty, you may knock some $ off the labor if you are willing to help and the contractor will accept that kind of help.
