Default A lot more info on Strip/Lawrenceville Plans

Still no full Master Plan, but the planning group posted their presentation from the last community meeting online:

http://www.alleghenyriverfrontvision...esentation.pdf

And this page also includes additional preliminary renderings:

Allegheny Riverfront Vision

This material discusses new transit ideas for the area, ecological issues including an ambitious plan for tree cover, and design alternatives for the Strip (including the Produce Terminal area) and three different parts of Lawrenceville.

There is actually WAY too much material to even try to sum up. But here are a few of the renderings of the area around the Produce Terminal to whet your appetite:

Note the trolley running in the first and last one, next to a new linear green space along the Produce Terminal with what look like spaces for cafes and such.

I have to admit...I like it. Mostly the green space. We'll see though. They need to be VERY sensitive to the current businesses in the Strip/Lawrenceville.

I like it a lot also. Just as above, one of my favorites are the greening of the strip. Even the renderings of trees along that long produce building would look really nice. I like the apartment complexes and how they are designing them to be integrated with the rivers. Especially with the court yards, and sidewalks are faced to the rivers and not the street. It would make a nice green space and reclamation of the prime river front space that Pittsburgh has never appreciated until recently.

Lets see though if this ever happens though. There is a lot of nothing going on since 2008.

Yeah this project would be huge...it's not just limited to that tiny little stretch, supposedly the master plan is develop along the riverside past Lawrencevill/the Strip for miles upon miles with mixed use structures. I really hope this happens, this is the type of modernization that Pittsburgh truly needs in order to inject some life into downtown and truly turn the corner. The good thing about all of this though is that it can slowly be completed in sections as opposed to just being one gigantic construction eyesore stretching along the riverside for 10+ years.

It looks nice, but it still doesn't address the parking issue. The trolley is a good idea, but not really feasible for anyone who wants to do a moderate shopping trip or is coming from a neighborhood that isn't connected to it.

Yep, there is definitely a lot more to it. Here are a few more plans and renderings:

It is a little more subtle because Lawrenceville is already more of a neighborhood, but I think the very idea of extending Lawrenceville to the river is pretty exciting.

Parking is addressed in the documents. Basically, they calculated the spaces they would need for retail support and the new residential units and the plan is to provide those spaces mostly through structures. What they are eliminating is the big surface commuter lots, and that is exactly the right decision.

I actually really like these plans in concept. If they turn out anything like what has been done with residential development near the South Side Works it would be wonderful.

The streetcar is a welcome sight indeed. Any idea if tentatively that would be like what you've talked about in the past, basically a "loop" with historic vehicles, or would the long-range plan be to tie into the T network? Also, as this would be going through the neighborhoods, does the plans cover anything about the proposed Allegheny Valley commuter train? If this development comes through at the expense of that, Mr. Peduto certainly won't be a happy camper.

I noticed that they calculated spaces, but I didn't see where they planned to put them all. Are they going to be under the apartment buildings? I didn't notice any garages in the drawings.

So this plan has parking marked on it in grey:

It is around the Veterans Bridge and behind the church. There may also be parking in the new apartment buildings.
