Default The Burgh sucks for meeting friends

I have lived here for 4 months now. Moved for a girl, we broke up, and I have worked here for about 2 years now. All of my friends from work are married or engaged, and it's tough meeting like-minded guys to hang out with.

It's not hard to meet a woman, that's the easy thing, but how do you meet a guy or two to just grab a beer with and watch the Pens play??? I don't want to come off as a creeper and one thing I miss is having a decent wingman when I go out bar hopping occasionally.

Any suggestions?

Do you belong to a health club, YMCA, Oxford Club? How about contacts at work? I met a ton of people playing pick-up B-ball at the Y. Do you live in an apartment complex?

Yeah, it ain't easy, but I think it's the same everywhere.

Good luck.

I can offer my friendship services for $25/hour + you buy the beers. Send me a DM if interested.

Seriously though. I think a lot of it does with age and you life situation. In college I had too many friends. I met everybody in classes, parties, etc. The few years after college it dwindled down, but I still had a lot of young friends I met hanging out on weekends. Now I have a even less friends. I work all day, and hardly ever go out boozin anymore. It sucks approaching your 30s.

I'm pretty sure there are no cities that "suck for meeting friends", even ones that are notorious for it like Seattle. Please stop making inaccurate negative blanket statements. It ruins the internet.

Fix up your basement. You'd be surprised how many guys show up when you have a new plasma tv with NFL ticket, a bar with a tap, and a pool table. Also, spend a few bucks and join a country club. It's great for socializing and playing golf! If those things are too expensive for you, then grab 2 tickets to a steelers game or a penguins game. Nobody cares about a pirates game. Once you start mentioning around work that you have an extra ticket you will see some guys trying to get an invite. You can also offer to pay for a lap dance for them at a strip club. I suggest Club Erotica in McKees Rocks. They serve free beer and are full nude.

I think my idea for buying his friends is better.

Listen OP, don't spend a few thousand on your basement, go to a fake county club and pretend your important, or pay for other dudes to have a naked chick dance on them. Just pay me 25 bucks an hour. It is a much more moral way to buy a friend.

Definetely not a Pittsburgh phenomenon....that's a universal phenomenon. I don't know a city on the planet where a person can move with a girl friendfriend, breakup with a girlfriend, and suddenly make instant-friends instanteously without doing anything to meet them.

But...for a guy who just wants to grab a beer and watch the Pens play. Such an easy, easy, easy solution. Just walk out of your house and walk into any bar you see - preferably one with a large tv screen and some people with pen jerseys going in and out of it. Try to time your walk so it is just a few minutes before the Pens game starts. Once you enter the bar, sit down at the bar stool and order a beer. When you see the Penguins do something really good or really bad, make a vocal comment about it. I think if you follow these instructions, and don't skip any parts of these, you'll soon find the friend you seek.

I hate when people blame their woes on the place in which they reside. That is not to suggest that there is never any merit. For the most part, you can plug that same issue into any given city.
