Hi,

We are moving from Boston to Pittsburgh where I will start working at UPMC. We are looking for places "for rent to start" in good school district "preschool" family friendly, within 20-30 minutes commute "drive/bus or train" to Lawrenceville. We are looking for 2-3 BR apartment for up to $1300/month in rent. Our daughter is 4 years old. We realize that it could be a bit late to register her for the coming school year and would consider using a daycare instead.

From what we gathered so far Parkview and Aspinwall seem to be good start with. We read good reviews about Mt Lebanon too and I was wondering how commutable it is to get to Lawrenceville. Your feedback is very much appreciated.

Nadia

You might consider looking in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The local schools are pretty good, there are lots of daycare/preschool options, the commute to Lawrenceville is easy, and there are a decent number of rental units.

Aspinwall is a much quicker commute to Children's Hospital than Mt. Lebanon. You get to Children's Hospital from Aspinwall in 10 minutes---15 to 20 tops in rush hour traffic. Mt. Lebanon would be 20 to 30 minutes----longer in rush hour traffic. Just like Mt. Lebanon, Aspinwall is in one of the county's best school districts----Fox Chapel.

Oh, and I agree Aspinwall is another good option.

If you want to consider the city, and either use carefully selected public schools or private schools, Friendship and Highland Park will bring you even closer to Lawrenceville - within 10 minutes. Both areas are family friendly, close to parks and walkable neighborhoods.

We should add Morningside to your list too.

I'll admit, I've never heard of a town or township called Parkview. Where is that exactly? It must be the name of an apartment community or a specific small neighborhood.

Could it be a O'Hara Twp neighborhood? www.parkviewvfd.org

I wondered if she was referring to that area on Sharps Hill.

That's an okay area. I'm not sure how many rentals would be available up there.

The area is mostly 100 year old homes, and that immediate neighborhood has a lot of 1960s homes.

Parkview is not bad. One side of Sharps Hill Road is Fox Chapel School District and the other is Shaler School District. Some old homes, and a lot of home from the 50s and 60s. Some of these properties allow great views of the Allegheny River Valley and even Downtown.http://maps.google.com/?q=loc:+84th+...15.92,,1,-1.49
