Try to avoid apartment in Oakland if they are being marketed to students. There are a lot of landlords in that neighborhood who are taking advantage of students and not keeping their buildings well maintained. Although the city is cracking down on that more now.

I suggest you try North Oakland (off-campus), Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

I would recommend looking off the beaten path in Squirrel Hill and Regent Square. Rents are resonable in these areas and there is a lot to to. Plus, you are right on the major bus line into Oakland/Downtown. We just purchased a house w/ a one bedroom apt in Squirrel Hill and love the area.

Smile Apartment Suggestion

Try looking on the southern edge of Squirrel Hill, right near Greenfield.

The location is great and I managed to find a good deal on an apartment, so maybe you can too.

Good luck.

What are you getting your degree in?

I also recommend Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, Southside. They are nicer places to live...you can check Landorslum.com: The landlord rating website for a list of landlords in Pittsburgh and across the country. Good luck!
