Arnold has good & bad parts like New Kensington... Ppl say that the bad parts of New Ken/Arnold were safer when the mafia was in control... So that being said I can tell there's gang activity, lots of drugs, crime, riff-raff and just the average ghetto BS...
Idk too much on New Kensington or Arnold, but the safe parts are said to be pretty nice, well kept and stable, and so is the near by Lower Burrell.

New Ken, Arnold, and Lower Burrell are all pretty much the same area. However for New Ken and Arnold being so close to each other, I think its soo neat they both have a downtown sectiion.. (not much going on in either, but still )

If and when the AVRR ever takes off I could see economic growth returning to New Kensington. A community like that is perfect for me as an individual who is looking to purchase his first home in a few years for around $50,000. Right now, though, I couldn't justify how distant it is from the city, but that could change if commuter rail pulls through. Millvale (out of the flood zone) is most likely to gain me as a new resident.

Arnold is usually ok in the daytime. It truly isn't a safe place. This brief article tells about various shootings including one on Monday:

Early-morning gunfire rattles Arnold - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

I disagree with Augie. Those three towns aren't alike. Lower Burrell is much more desirable with far less crime.

You are correct, Peter. I should have expanded some more In terms of crime and "public image" Lower Burrell is the Gem of the bunch... .I was speaking more of proximity of each other.

I only work in the New Ken parnasus area, not live so I have a limited time in the area.. (For about 4 years now) when I first got the job I heard complete HORROR stories about the condition , crime , and overall decline. However, I really do not see an overwhelming difference with most other Western PA towns...

Welcome to the area!

A welcoming church is by no means a rarity here. Jobs are VERY easy to find in this area. Career opportunities, on the other hand, are scarce as hen's teeth.

New Ken is probably the "toughest" part of the A-K Valley, but it isn't that bad. All in all, I'd say that the nicest people in the Pittsburgh area can be found in that valley. I've met & known too many good people from that area to count. Very down to earth and very friendly.

Lived in New Ken my whole life as well as my father and grandparents. It's horrible here, the people are rude! Lots of drug problems and shootings, almost everyday. When I have the chance to get out of this hell hole I will and I suggest you do the same.
