Default Before the Civic Arena

Storytelling: Vibrant collection of backgrounds preceded the arena

I liked this article. Downtown could use a neighborhood like this within it's proximity. It would have modern touches, of course. Could Uptown recreate some of this magic? Let's wait and see.

Thank you for posting this.

In some recent threads in this forum I posted about how happy my first 12 years of life in the Lower Hill were.

What a thrill to read this wonderful PG piece written by someone I knew there. I lived on Washington, just around the corner and down a little from where the writer lived on Wylie. His descriptions of life there are exactly as I remember it.

I lived away from Pgh from '87 to '08. When I returned to see still another arena being built in the neighborhood that was destroyed for the first arena, I became both bitter and nostalgic. Bitter because we were removed from a home my family owned from before 1900 and nostalgic for those happy childhood days in the Hill. It's good to see that someone from my era, someone I knew, feels the same way and was able to convey his feelings with a fine writing style .
