Visiting Pittsburgh next month..
I will staying in the Coraopolis area. How are the areas between there and downtown Pittsburgh crimewise, say going along State Route 51?
What are some places to visit in a day and a half?

I don't know Coraopolis at all, but I do recommend going into the city for activities. The museums and touristy stuff are mostly located in and near the city, and Coraopolis is a bit farther out. You could check out the Carnegie Museums, the National Aviary, the Gateway Clipper boats or Just Ducky Tours. Definitely ride the incline!
As for crime, I don't think you'll have to worry about that where you'll be staying. In the actual city you should just use the amount of caution you would in any city - just don't leave your purse unattended or your car unlocked, you'll be fine

Hi
We stayed in Coriopolis last summer. It was really nice and crime was not an issue, at least where we were. I don't know that there was much to do there, but it was an easy drive into town. Coriopolis istself was very quiet! Have a nice trip

Coraopolis is a safe area, as is the area between it and Pittsburgh All the big shopping and dining attractions are in North Fayette and Robinson. That all tends to be big national chains and stuff. Downtown, and just about any neighborhood in the area has tons of little local joints. If you're gonna be in cory I'd suggest a quick hop over to Sewickley, they have a nice little mainstreet. There are some great old houses in Sewickley as well, a lot of very impressive Victorian homes.

I just moved to nearby Moon Township, and it's one of the most laid back places I've ever been to in my life. I love it here. I've never had any problems between here and downtown. Just, as mentioned earlier, use normal caution, ect. I've lived in other major cities and as far as downtown goes, Pittsburgh's downtown is much safer than I've felt in many other ones.

There's actually not a whole lot of anything between Coraopolis and the city right on 51 except misc suburban homes and the town of McKees Rocks, which you will find dirty, boring, traffic-ridden, and unpleasant if not dangerous at night. If you're heading into the city you'll probably want to take Rt. 65 down the other side of the river. From there you have access to I-79. You can continue straight on 65 into the city or head south on 79 to Robinson Township (I realize there are a million "back ways" the locals would take, but trying to explain getting up to Coraopolis Heights, through Moon, and over to Robinson would take too long) where you'll find tons of shopping and dining. If you're only in town a day or two, though, I suggest heading downtown to The Strip District (especially if you'll be here on a Saturday morning) and enjoy the street life or take in the Heinz History Museum. I also second the suggestion for Sewickley...great creamery there to cool you off if it is hot and a drive through Sewickey Heights and the area just west of "downtown Sewickley" will not disappoint with the $1M, 100+ year old mansions.
My 2 cents
