I'm sure this topic will heat up the board, but any opinions about Helen Thomas' comments? I know the argument rages on between Israel and Palestine....whose land it is, should Israel have the right to occupy Palestine, why terrorist organizations support Palestine, etc.

BUT my beef comes from Ari Fleisher's comment "could you imagine the uproar there would be if somebody suggested that all blacks should leave America and go back to Africa." Huh? That argument isn't even a little bit equal to this one. We BROUGHT blacks over to America as slaves....they didn't come willingly or by choice. And as for his comment about anyone suggesting Hispanics going back to Mexico would be blasted, opinion columnists suggest this all the time.

Israelis are occupying Palestine....nobody brought them there against their will. They WANT to be there, they CHOOSE to occupy and move into lands someone else lives on.

Does anybody else see how ridiculous this "parallel" is? There may be arguments against the comments Helen Thomas made, but I think this is a poor one and quite frankly, makes me wonder if this is "all you got" when arguing for Israel.

Fleischer's point was about ethnic cleansing. She suggested ethnically cleansing jews from the Israel. Why can't he make a comparison?Had she said it about blacks, back to africa, it wouldn't have been a buried story for several days..

Don't know how long you've been on these boards, but be prepared to hear that your comments mean you want to exterminate all Jews. It's ridiculous. The funny thing is that usually these are the same people who shout "RACE CARD!" when anyone suggests some anti-Obama feelings may be due to race. See the irony? But anyways...

Obviously it is a ridiculous parallel. One group were captured and enslaved for hundreds of years, the other were colonizers that kicked 650,000-750,000 people out of their homes and turned them into refugees to form a new country. Now that is ethnic cleansing.

Because any criticism of the state of Israel's foreign policy is anti-Semitic?

Just as much any criticism of Barack Obama is racist....

Both are ridiculous arguments.
