Looking a demographic stats across towns and cities in the country I noticed a disturbing trend: The percentage of children under 18 below the poverty line. Is this a "statistical bump" or a real representation? In many cases, while the general poverty level was in a low percent, the under 18 category was well into double digits many times.
What's going on? Are we on the way to mass poverty in the country or, like I mentioned earlier, does it just look that way due to the way the statistics are figured?
If this truly is such an issue, what can we do about it?
How can you forget to mention most of the young poor are black ? People come to this country with nothing and do better . People from Haiti or Jamaica do better than the entitled blacks already here .
This will go on for another 50 years if we don't stop giving them money someone else earned .

This has nothing to do with color. Anytime a child has a child it is a problem. The rise in teen pregnancy and single mothers has a lot to do with the high poverty rate among children.

OK , hide your hed in the sand and you won't see the babymamas .
Thank you for the links! It is worrisome to me, and I want to help. I think education and self esteem are two things perhaps that can help these kids. I grew up poor (really, no indoor plumbing or central head) and I remember always thinking I wanted to get out of it once I grew up but didn't know how. I found a way, and in the process brought my whole family out of it
I won't even touch on the other comments made on this thread - as those kinds of attitudes are part of the problem.
Well our government doesn't hesitate to send billions to other countries and even rebuild entire cities while ignoring the problems at home.
When all things "global" and "foreign" take precedence over "national" what do you expect ?
