Even George W. didn't try a stunt like this...and he's was hardly what most people consider an "environmentalist". This is disgusting.

That's horrible, but it's not because Obama LIKES to kill whales, okay?

This might be helpful in explaining the complications, and why this compromise is necessary for the time being.

Horrible? Disgusting? If the whale population can sustain a certain number being killed, how is it any different than tucking into a juicy piece of beef?

OK, so you hate Obama, I think we all got that part by now, and BTW, this particular bit of "news" has already been beaten to death:
Politics and Other Controversies: Obama Backs Deal to Lift Global Ban on Whaling - WTH?

The Administration is simply giving some concessions in order to get some others re: international whaling. It's called "bargaining" and "compromise", admittedly a strange concept to the "my way or the highway" types...

I think environmentalism is not very high on his list of priorities although he'll pay it lip service for political reasons. I'd say Clinton was somewhat the same way but was smarter in knowing that many environmental causes were actually important and did matter.

There are a lot more cows than there are whales. Also, cattle can be cloned and I believe in some areas is cloned. To my knowledge, we haven't mastered the art of cloning something like a blue whale.

Minke whales are abundant and actually overpopulated and outcompeting some endangered whales.

There is no rhyme or reason to this man, he has no principles, no ethical guidelines, and no morals, he seems to be an apple polisher or a puppet, just doing whatever they tell him to. Which explains why he can contradict himself from one day to the next.

That's a good fact, however it doesn't matter. Two different dynamics here.

With cattle, the rancher is the one who slaughters it. You don't have random people running around shotgunning cattle unless they're wild cattle, which isn't often. The fact that farms maintain cattle stock means that the population of cattle is never endangered, especially now that they can clone at will.

Whales, on the other hand, are just fair game without whaling control. Plus it's all about the species of whale that is being killed, not just whales in general. Minke whales might be plentiful, blue whales are not.
