See, Elton is smart AND happy with his partner in their civil union, whereas the Left and the radical militant gays are bent on usurping the traditional meaning of "marriage", instead of focusing on receiving the rights, through civil unions, that married couples enjoy.
He has rightly called out his fellow gays for their obsessive and damaging-to-their-cause zeal in their political quest to force Americans to accept something they are vehemently opposed to.
Think about it - all this time, all these years, they could have had all the rights enjoyed by married couples, if they would have pushed for civil unions.
Who are the real dummies?
How do you know factually that States (espec ultra-conservative ones) would have even allowed civil unions. in fact, some have had propositions outlawing even those. A civil union does not transfer across state lines if the couple moves. A civil union is only valid in the State where the couple lives. Unless the civil union law is applied Federally, it really wouldn't work. In addition, there are many benefits that apply ONLY ot marriages, not civil unions. Civil unions are only half a loaf compared to the full loaf that marriage is.
