On Monday, June 14, a preliminary probe by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) of ACORN has found no evidence the association or related organizations mishandled the $40 million in federal money they received in recent years. The GAO interviewed and obtained documentation from grant program managers and staff from nine agencies; NeighborWorks, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of the Treasury (Treasury), and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Department of Homeland Security and (DHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Most of the grants were for housing-related purposes during fiscal years 2005 through 2009.

The GAO, an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress, is often called the "congressional watchdog." It investigates how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars.

The sad part is that it canít be fixed now that the ďtruthĒ came out. And those who falsified the information, edited the video, and lied are not held accountable and in jail. FOXnews played this for all they could without checking for more facts. I saw and investigative report on another network about this issue, it was amazing. Itís always a good idea to check other news sources other then FOX.

really;that is not what teh voideoes showed millions of americans. if that had been private busienss their would ahve been congrssional hearings and charges. What the people do is what the oragnization does. What I saw was conspracy to commit crimes by a oragniazation that got federal funds;pure and simple. When your caught on tape its no use denyign what epopel clearly saw and hear first hand.

What bothers me most is how quick people are to assume that all these "non-partisan" "independent" "watchdog" offices within the government are actually non-partisan. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NON-PARTISAN ANYTHING IN GOVERNMENT! NO MATTER WHICH PARTY IS IN OFFICE!

I sincerely wish that "the people" could see how the levers of government actually work. I have had the opportunity to see it in action on numerous occasions and, although I know none of you here will believe me, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that any hint of "non-partisan" anything is thrown out the window the moment a political appointee is interviewed!

It's frustrating, to say the least, that so many people are so easily manipulated, whether it be by the media or by our own government.

GAO is what? yes, an independent, non partisan agency, which spells liberal most of the time. That is like saying the League of Women voters is non partisan or the Brookings Institute..

Don't even go there Del. Whatever convoluted reasoning you feel you have up your sleeve to try to one-up me, you can save it. I can assure you I have experience dealing with just about any DC watchdog group you can come up with. Why do you think I would even make such statements if I had nothing to back it up with?
