The only purpose of this law is for politicians to politically grandstand and garner votes from morons who think that there is an actual possibility of Sharia law being declared-- in of all places Oklahoma.

Less government intervention my arse.
Never say never.

A judge in NJ ruled in favor of a husband in a spousal rape case, because the Muslim husband was adhering to his religious beliefs. The ruling was later overturned.

This was a little too close to sharia law for me.

Court rejects religious rape defense on appeal

So, the system worked? The incorrect ruling was overturned by a higher court...

Seems like pretty weak evidence that Sharia Law is in our future.

But, hell, if it makes Christians feel persecuted, go with it, right?

There have been a few conservatives here who have suggested that the U.S. actually needs Sharia Law, particularly during the conversations about homosexuality.

I agree. A good preemptive move. There is a book entitled, Londonstan that talks about the increasing presence and "influence" of Muslims and Sharia in the UK. Are there any liberals, conservatives, Christians, Jews, or Atheists for that matter in the U.S. that have any knowledge of the Muslim laws and can say they would want those laws used in the U.S.? If so, please explain.

The system worked the second time around. The fact that it got by the first time does not give me confidence in that particular judge's ability on the bench. I don't know where you get the notion Christians feel persecuted by it, but as a female, I want NO part of it here.

This is what's happening in London for a few years now:
Revealed: UK’s first official sharia courts -Times Online (Sept 2008)
Quote:
ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.
The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.
Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.
Britain has 85 sharia courts: The astonishing spread of the Islamic justice behind closed doors | Mail Online (June 2009)
In less than a year Sharia courts went from 5 to an estimated 85.
Quote:
Commentators on the influence of sharia law often count only the five courts in London, Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham and Nuneaton that are run by the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal, a body whose rulings are enforced through the state courts under the 1996 Arbitration Act.
But the study by academic and Islamic specialist Denis MacEoin estimates there are at least 85 working tribunals.

It will work it's way here -- it's only a matter of time.

Damn it! We were this close to getting Sharia declared the law of the land in Oklahoma...If this law hadn't been passed we would've had veils on the Oklahoma Sooner cheerleaders, banned beer in Tulsa, and finally no more pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. But then you pesky infidels had to spoil our plans with this new law.

Oh well, I guess there is always North Dakota and Delaware...And wait until we hit Branson, Missouri.

Of course, I've always loved the Constitution, and cherish the part about religious freedom. I wish everyone did...

But if you want to think it's a slippery slope into Sharia law (which isn't even imposed in 75% of Muslim countries!) then it's going be really difficult to convince you that US citizens who practice Islam aren't the threat...

Once again I have to explain the same thing because someone isn't paying attention.

If your religion requires you to disallow the free exercise of other religions by other people, the First Amendment does not offer protection for that part of your religion.

Islam requires its practitioners to subdue the infidels.

Not gonna work here in the US.

Islam is incompatable with the Bill of Rights.
