Joe Barton is 100% correct, it is an Obama "shakedown." A tactic Obama regularly used as Community Organizer with ACORN. Rep. Barton should have gone further, Obama is violating the law - specifically, 18 USC §872. It is a felony to attempt to obtain from someone, or some corporation, through force, intimidation, or undue or illegal power.
First and foremost, everyone (including corporations) is entitled to "due process" which Obama has denied BP. Second, 33 USC §2704 limits liability to the clean-up costs plus $75 million for off-shore facilities, unless it is proven in a court of law that criminal negligence was involved.
Obama has now given the House grounds to begin impeachment hearings. Since Democrats clearly are not interested in upholding the rule of law, this will obviously have to wait until after November.
I would like you to find a podium, somewhere along the coast where people affected by the spill live. Then scream your lungs out about how terrible it is for the government to ask BP to pay for the mess its facility has created. In fact, go ahead and call it "extortion", as that is how you see it.
figures you would defend BP instead of Americans! I bet you would be singing a different tune if this massive oil spill was on the shores of Lake Michigan and ruining Chicago.

Seems they'd rather let businesses go under, people lose their homes, ANYTHING but get money to help Americans.

It's amazing, how they suddenly and conveniently seem to forget about the people who depend upon that coastline for their livelihoods, when they want to claw and scratch at Obama like junkyard dogs.

I find it amazing that anyone would object to a corporation that made record profits by polluting the atmosphere (even before the Gulf) having to pay for the damage that they have inflicted by nothing but sheer negligence. Maybe these BP a$$ kissers have a large amount of stock in the company. I cannot think of any other reason.

Ya, you summed it up pretty well....they flip flop all over the place...BP was forced, BP wasn't forced....if they were forced the Repugs are mad...if they weren't forced then Obama would've been "weak".....

BP could afford to pay TonySoprano, the CEO, 6 MILLION(that's only salary) last year......could save a lot of money by cutting that back to about half a mil....
